Book Adaptation Tag

Since I just recently decided to read Normal People by Sally Rooney, it got me thinking about a lot of other books to movie or book to tv show adaptations. So, this is the Book Adaptation Tag!

What is the last book adaptation movie you saw?

Recently I’ve been reading the twilight saga, and since I just finished them, I rewatched the movies! I’m a sucker for a good vampire/romance.

What book movie are you most excited for?

The Selection! I have always been a huge fan of this series and a couple of months ago Netflix announced that they are doing the adaptation for it! I’m honestly incredibly scared for it since it’s a book series that I do read annually, but I’m hoping they pull it off!

Which upcoming book movie will you definitely NOT see?

There’s Someone Inside Your House, written by Stephanie Perkins. Honestly, I hate horror movies. They scare me so bad and I just feel like someone’s watching me! So, unfortunately, I will not be seeing this movie!

Which book movie would you NEVER watch again?

The Giver. I read this book a long time ago for school, and I really enjoyed it. It was definitely way different than what I usually read, but the movie completely ruined it for me. It just wasn’t how I pictured anything in the story, and it completely changed how I saw each of the characters too. They also made the actors really old when they’re supposed to be much younger which really bothered me.

Is there a movie you saw that made you want to read the book if you hadn’t yet?

I actually have never read the Harry Potter series. I’ve always loved the movies, and I love the storyline and characters, but I’ve never read the books. Every time I do a harry potter marathon, I feel like trying to read the books.

Conversely, is there a movie that made you never want to read the book?

The Devil Wears Prada. I love this movie. The actors were chosen perfectly, and it’s just amazing. I feel like the book might ruin it for me.

Have you ever left the theater during a movie adaptation because it was so bad?

I have not…yet. We’ll see how it goes.

Do you prefer to watch the movie first or read the book first?

Definitely read the book first. It gives so much more detail and I love comparing them afterward.

How do you feel about movie adaptations that age characters up? (ex. characters that are in middle school, but in the movies, they’re all 18)

I hate this! It completely changes the character. Why can’t they just pick someone who at least looks closer to the actual age?

Do you get angry when the actors don’t look like you thought the characters looked?

Yes. Unfortunately, I do. They had one job!

Is there a movie you liked better than its book?

Allegiant! This is the third book/movie in the Divergent series, but I liked the movie way better. I won’t spoil it for anyone, but I definitely preferred the movie ending.

Name a book that you would love to see as a movie.

So many! The A Court of Thorns and Roses series, The Throne of Glass series, A Curse so Dark and Lonely Series, Red, White & Royal Blue. Of course, I may want to see them as movies but they better get it right!
