Guys, this novella is EVERYTHING. I had been seriously procrastinating finishing King of Patriam and this short novella because I genuinely didn’t want to say goodbye to this found family that I’ve come to completely adore, but it was such an amazing read!
King of Patriam left us with so many plotholes and twists that I didn’t see coming. Based on that, I knew there had to be another book coming. We still need to know so much more information and so many little details that were left out. Their stories aren’t complete yet!
The High Council takes us into our favorite characters’ perspectives of their lives after the Final War. We get to see a look into their pasts, who they are and how they got there. We get flashbacks to relationships forming between our favorite characters. We get new plots forming between the characters after the war. It’s everything. It’s a transition book that honestly could’ve been another 400 pages.
One of my favorite parts of this novella was seeing Emori and Devin’s backstory. It had been hinted at and generalized over the past 3 books in the series and I couldn’t be more obsessed with them and their love for each other. We’re able to see Devins favorite parts of their relationship forming and how Emori was able to adjust to her new life in Terra with Devin.
We’re also able to see so many adorable moments with our favorite characters and their kids. Devin is no longer the only High council member with children so we’re able to see Cade go through the motions of discovering what it’s like to have a son. He’s able to see what his father failed to do with him and Cassian and adjust his parenting to fit his child. We’re able to see Deianira be absolutely obsessed with her baby and I kind of love it. They’re so freaking cute and her baby brings out the softness in her. We’re also lucky enough to see some Salem and Cassian content with their little girl and I have to say I am completely obsessed. Elia seems like the perfect mix of Cassian and Salem.
Along with all of that, there are so many new plot points and details that are emerging. While the Final War might be over, there are still so many problems that the High Council is going to have to navigate, all while dealing with their very insane personal lives.
I’m so excited to see where Amizah takes this series. I feel like it has so much potential and room to grow and it’ll be very interesting to see how our characters develop and change as they continue to grow older.
