Under His Command – Rhea Harp

After being on a bit of a dark romance kick lately, I, of course, had to pick up Rhea’s book, Under His Command. I’ve interacted with Rhea quite a few times on threads over the course of the last few months and her  teasers had me so intrigued and exciting to read this!

The story

As someone who isn’t particularly knowledgeable about American politics and military regimes, I kind of went into the book blind. I understood that the book focused on a dark romance between a military male main character and a younger female character.

Starting this book, the prologue was giving me so much tension and chemistry. I was hooked from page one! As Under His Command progressed, I couldn’t help but love the way the story was going. I mean it was clear to see that not only was Rowan completely obsessed with Dove, but there’s a political underlying element that continued to pop up surrounding Dove’s deceased older brother, Cole. With every mention of Cole I became more and more curious about the real reasons behind his death.

With political intrigue, lots and lots of spice, and a cliffhanger that will have you begging for more, this book was such an exciting and fun read!

The characters

Have I mentioned that I’m in love with Rowan King yet? No? Well I am. I’m a sucker for a man that’s obsessed with his girl and let me tell you, Rowan King is the blueprint. This man not only focused on protecting Dove at every single turn, but he managed to be super hot and not overbearing while doing so. I mean maybe he was a little overbearing, but who cares? He’s Rowan freaking King.

Dove was a character that I immediately felt myself enjoying. She’s quietly confident in certain areas of her life but when it comes to her relationship, she struggled to grasp the reality of how deep it flowed. It was interesting seeing the events unfold from her perspective as we’re in the dark about what exactly is going on and the motives behind every event.

The writing style

I’m in love with Rhea’s style. I feel like this book was so easy to read despite some darker themes. Like I mentioned before, I was hooked from page one. The writing was easy to get into and it flowed perfectly, allowing me to imagine the scene easily in my head.

Final thoughts

I can’t wait to see what Rhea does with the next book in this series. The cliffhanger has me on the edge of my seat and I honestly adored every second of this story.
