This novella has me on my KNEES. Believe me when I say I love my Kenji content and this served exactly what I wanted, right up on a platter.
Plot
After the events of the last book (Defy Me), and the rescue mission to get Juliette (Ella?) and Aaron back, Kenji is beat.
He arrived in the Sanctuary relieved to see his friends, but worried when Adam and James were nowhere to be found. What if something happened to them? They’d left them alone with Anderson still alive.
“Her eyes are big and bright and she’s staring at me like she’s just a girl and I’m just a guy and we’re not both just a pair of dumbasses headed directly for the sun.”
When Kenji’s suspicions prove correct, and the stresses of the past few weeks have caught up to him, Kenji’s body goes on overload and he passes out.
Meanwhile, Nazeera deals with her feelings towards Kenji, and tries to dig herself out of the hole that she put herself in while not being vulnerable enough.
The Sanctuary is preparing for another mission, but what will they do when the mission comes to them?
Characters
God I love Kenji Kishimoto. This man will never ever be beat. He’s a softie and he loves his friends and he cares so damn much. He has my entire heart and I love him with everything I have.
Nazeera, where do I even start? She comes off as such a badass but she’s just a softie too at heart and I kind of love it for her. She’s perfect for Kenji.
Setting
The Sanctuary seems too good to be true. I feel like it’s some sort of set up but I’m hoping it’s not. It just seems too nice? Too comfortable? I don’t know, something’s off.
Writing
I couldn’t put this novella down. I love my Kenji and Nazeera moments!!
In conclusion
This is a must read for the series! I loved seeing glimpses of Kenji and his true feelings. I can’t wait to start the next one!
