This final book in the Shatter Me series was the perfect way to say goodbye to my favorite characters. I have to say, I was in a HUGE slump reading this, so it took me forever because of that, and also because I just didn’t want to give up some of these characters that have truly worked their way into my heart.
Plot
As Juliette struggles to draw the line between Ella and Juliette, her mind fights with her body for control. But what happens when Emmaline joins her consciousness too, and is not asking, but begging to be killed by her sister?
“To the world, she is formidable. To me? She is the world.”
As the war is coming to an end, it’s up to Juliette to finally finish what started because of her.
Characters
Juliette demolished the world in this book. She’s truly grown up from an immature girl who knew nothing about taking control of her life, to someone who is rocking her world and doing what she believes is right. She’s changed the entire course of their world and it’s amazing to see my girl grow up big and strong, defeating her enemies and taking over!
Warner had me on my KNEES. The man was in complete agony over Juliette being taken, and it was kind of adorable but kind of insane. He truly is the grumpy to her sunshine and she is the light in his very very dark and traumatic existence.
“Come back to life, love. I’ll be here when you wake up.”
Kenji, where do I begin? I feel for this man irreversibly in Unravel Me and I’ve been hooked on his comedy coping mechanism ever since. The man is broken inside but I like to think that he’s now healing. His number one priority has, and always will be his friends. He cares, so freaking much, and I adore him for it.
Setting
There’s not much to say about the setting as we’ve already been introduced to the Sanctuary and the Oceania base, but I have to say that both settings kind of suited their owners perfectly. The Sanctuary was calming and peaceful and put me in a relaxed mood, while the base of Oceania had me on the edge of my seat and it was super intense.
“Imagine me
master of my own universe
I am everything I ever dreamed of”
Writing
While I didn’t particularly enjoy the longer chapters in this book, it was truly an easy read and I got through it fairly quickly. Tahareh Mafi’s writing is so captivating and it definitely keeps you coming back for more.
In conclusion
This was an epic finale to the series and I can’t wait to read the final novella. I’m gonna miss this series so freaking much. I can’t believe I’m saying goodbye to these characters soon.
