Behind the Pen – Author Interview: Ashleigh Holly

Hi everyone! Welcome back to another Behind the Pen segment where I dive deeper into the author that is… well, behind the pen! This time, we’ve got the lovely Ashleigh Holly joining me to tell us a bit more about her author journey and upcoming books!

Your Journey to Becoming an Author

  1. Can you introduce yourself to our readers?

Hi, I’m Ashleigh Holly. I’m 30, and from the UK. Single mum of two, and I’ve always used to be an author so now my girls are a little older I’m finally chasing that dream.

  1. What first drew you to writing as a craft?

I’ve written/made up stories since I was a little kid and I’ve always been into reading, I can’t remember ever not being interested in making up stories.

  1. How did your author journey begin?

I’ve been writing a bit more seriously for about a year, just learning as I go, but Save Her is the first book I’ve actually had confidence in.

  1. Are there any authors or books that inspired you or significantly influenced the way you write?

I enjoyed Louise Rennison as a teenager, and I guess my writing is similar in that tongue-in-cheek kinda way.

  1. What was the most surprising part of your publishing experience?

I’m yet to publish my debut novel, but I guess the fact that you can self publish without going through a big company. I wasn’t actually aware of that.

  1. Where do you find is the best place for you to brainstorm your writing? Do you have a specific area in your house or a favorite cafe where you always end up writing the best?

In the shower! I always seem to have ideas when I’m in the shower

Let’s Talk Recent Releases

  1. Tell me about your most recent release. What drew you into the story?

Save Her, due to be released 22nd September. I feel that it’s a very emotionally raw, but beautiful story and it deserves to be seen.

  1. Who is your favorite character in this story, why?

Kit, the main character. I’m very fond of him and I feel like readers are going to love him too.

What’s Next for You?

  1. Do you have any upcoming books or novellas in the works?

Yes, currently working on a romance called If You’re Mine.

  1. Where did you gain the inspiration for these next projects?

I’m not sure, the ideas just come to me and I roll with it until I can develop it into an actual story with a plot.

More About You

  1. If you could describe your writing in three words, what would they be?

Witty, emotional, angsty
