Restore Me – Tahereh Mafi

Okay I’m in shock. This ending, this entire book. Oh my god.

The Story

After taking over North America as the Supreme Commander, Juliette is tasked with a million and one things to do throughout her day. Her relationship with Aaron is steadily growing despite his grief for past events, and her friendship with the other Point members has never been better. Juliette is learning how to manage her powers in a safe way while also learning how to manage an entire continent.

“Idiots are highly flammable, love. Let them all burn in hell.”

When guests arrive from another continent, Juliette realizes just how much she’s in over her head, and when reveals come about her past and who she truly is, what will she do? It’s up to her to figure out her path and where it leads, for her past is still uncertain but her future is unwritten.

Can Juliette lead North America to safety, or will she be taken down before she gets started?

The Characters

Alright we’ve got A LOT of new characters in this book, but I’m living for it. I want to start with Nazeera because I’m in love? She’s stunning, she’s badass, she’s everything that I want in a sidekick for Juliette. Of course, she’s got Kenji, but Nazeera? Oh man, I love her. Her character was full of surprises, tons of twists, super intense, super passionate. She made this book ten times better.

Her brother on the other hand, BORING. He was just so dull. He was fine. A fine character with nothing really going for him. He didn’t really add much to the entire book, and I have to be honest, I kind of ignored him.

Juliette, I don’t even know where to start with her in terms of this book. She’s proven so many times that her power is so strong and she can do this and she’s maturing and she truly is. She’s stronger, she’s more mature, she’s taking on the responsibility. But at the same time, her inexperience is so frustrating, not only for me but for her too. You can tell so clearly that she’s out of the loop and it’s so annoying. Like someone catch this girl up on whatever is going on?! Seriously.

Along with all of this, she had a lot of crazy reveals about her past. I won’t spoil anything but my jaw was on the floor I was so shocked. Like when- how- I couldn’t. And I’m still reeling from the revelations.

Kenji, my love, love of my life, husband, lover. My god I adore this man. If he wasn’t in these books then I probably wouldn’t continue to be completely honest. He CARRIES this series. His humor and loving actions make me want to continue reading. He makes me laugh, he makes me smile, but he also makes me so freaking sad because he deserves so much happiness but can’t seem to get enough. SOMEONE GIVE THIS MAN A HUG.

“Who says you can’t be cute and kick ass at the same time?” Kenji winks at me. “I do it every day.”

Aaron, god this man is amazing. I love him, but he’s also an idiot. I mean just tell her the TRUTH. Whether it’ll hurt her or not, it isn’t really your place to withhold information. I won’t say anything more about that because it’s spoilers but I truly love Aaron and I hope they figure out their issues because my heartbroken boy deserves a hug.

The Setting

We took over the sector 45 base for this book and I adore this setting. It takes me right back to the early days of the first shatter me book, but now it’s such a happy and joyous place. The construction is also going to make it more accessible for all of Juliette’s comrades and I can’t say I don’t love it!

“Shit, man, if I didn’t know you were in a world of pain right now, I’d be filming this.”

The Writing Style

I have to say, I don’t know if it’s the writing in this book or if it’s just because I loved ignite me so much, but I was in a major slump with no motivation to read this book. It took me wayy longer that it usually would have, but overall when I sat down and really got into it, the writing was enjoyable. I liked seeing Aaron’s point of view too. (Yes, you read that right, dual pov!!)

Do I Recommend?

I can’t wait to start shadow me. I am hooked on this series. That ending? Wow.
