Satan’s Affair – H.C. Carlton

Satan’s Affair was honestly a book I’ve been looking forward to for a while after reading the Cat & Mouse duet. Not only did I not want to say goodbye to these characters and this world, Sibby was such a mystery that I couldn’t not want to unravel her story. 

The story

We’re put in Sibby’s point of view as she does her hunting at Satan’s Affair with her henchmen, ridding the world of evil. It’s almost terrifying to be behind someone who we know is delusional but it seems so real to her. As a psych student, this book was insightful and it had me genuinely curious as to how Sibby had suffered and the causes behind her conditions. It was horrifying in some parts to see her come apart from the scenes she laid before us and I have to say that I didn’t expect the book to be so sinister and outright creepy.

By the end of the book I was not only sympathetic towards Sibby and her character but I was also in shock. I felt her henchmen were real and I will stand by that decision. I know she’s delusional, I know she’s suffering, but sometimes people just need people. 

Characters

I loved each and every one of these characters. The Zade cameo had me nearly crying from how much I missed him and his dark humor. 

The henchmen were men I had to get used to. I feel like at first they’re portrayed as huge brutes and guys that aren’t very friendly, but in reality they’re just big softies. They’re full of love for Sibby and it’s the sweetest thing ever. 

In terms of Sibby, I knew I would always stand by her. She never deserved what she went through and I can’t help but feel sorry for her. She deserves so much better, so much kindness. 

Do I recommend?

For a novella, this book kind of took me a while to get into. For that reason I did rate it down. Maybe I just wasn’t in the right headspace or maybe it was the actual story but I feel like you need to be very aware of the contents before going into this one. Haunting Adeline took me by surprise with how dark it got as I hadn’t read dark romance like that before, but this is darker in a completely different way. While Haunting Adeline was sinister and suspenseful, this was more horror and gruesome. Because of that, I’d say that if you have a strong stomach then yes I recommend.
