Binding 13 – Chloe Walsh

Guys.. I knew the hype around this book was real but I didn’t know it’d be this real.

The story

Binding 13 instantly put me into the world of Tommen college and I was hooked. Binding 13 follows Shannon, a third year transfer to Tommen College, and Johnny, a hot-shot rugby player in fifth year.

“¨I think I need you for keeps.¨
¨I think I need you for keeps, too.¨”

As Johnny navigates an injury that keeps him from being at the top of his game, his head begins to be filled with Shannon Lynch. The two form a curious relationship filled with tension and protectiveness. With Johnny’s career on the line and Shannon’s father closing in on her, the two have to navigate life at Tommen and their growing relationship.

The characters

Shannon Lynch was one of those characters that genuinely felt small. She was described over and over again as looking like a kid and looking tiny, and I get it (i’m 4ft 11inches), but I also feel like she was super mature for age. It got frustrating sometimes how Shannon was continuously described as small because while her height is definitely a factor, her personality grew with her confidence. I found myself liking Shannon a lot more than I expected, especially considering her home life. As she’s navigating her relationship with her family members, it’s clear to see how anxiety ridden she is, and I couldn’t help but feel attached and sorry for her. I wanted to wrap her up and take her away from it all.

“Boom, boom, fucking boom, Da. I’m done for…”

I think I fell deeply in love with Johnny Kavanagh. I didn’t expect it to happen but he hit me light a freight train. In between his possessiveness and stubbornness, I fell really hard for Johnny. His strong moral compass and his softness towards Shannon truly had me head over heels for the boy and I couldn’t help but adore him.

My favourite character of the entire book has got to be Gibsie. Every scene with Gibs had me laughing so hard. He’s absolutely hilarious and his relationship with Johnny had me dying!!

The writing

I did struggle for a good 50% of the book due its slower nature but as the book picked up I found the writing did too. I found myself reading so fast that I was barely picking up on the words.

Do I recommend?

This tension filled romance has me obsessed with the boys of Tommen series. I can’t believe I didn’t read it before! I’m so excited to get to the second book!!

Rating: 4/5⭐️
