Salvation – Kelsee Warrick

First of all, I want to say a HUGE thank you to Kelsee for taking a chance on my little author services business and providing me with a proofread copy of this book! I also want to thank Silver Editing Co. for always supporting me and recommending me for this read!

I had the best time reading Salvation. As a small-town romance girlie, this was right up my alley. Add in a childhood best friends-enemies-lovers story and a dirty talking male main character? Yeah, I’m hooked.

The story

When Blake finds her boyfriend cheating on with her boss, her dream job is ruined. Her life has been flipped upside down. What else is there to do but return to her sleepy hometown of Clover-Hills?

As Blake arrives back in town, she’s faced with the memories that she once ran from. An abusive father, a mother who faced issues with addiction, and a best friend that she left behind. Blake must finally face her past and come to terms with everything that happened to her as a teenager and why she ran away from home while battling the sizzling chemistry and closeness of her new neighbour.

The characters

Blake is one of my new favorite female main characters. I adored every second of being with her and her story. This story truly showcases how strong a female lead can be. Blake, despite all odds, managed to save her life and find happiness – even in a place that once caused her extreme trauma. I love that she wasn’t one of those pushover female characters but instead, she allowed her trauma to guide her decisions, finding happiness in the best possible way. It also helped that her every thought was so relatable and I found myself giggling along with her as she blushed at everything Wesley said.

Speaking of Wesley – the man is mine. I’m claiming him, before the rest of you come for that dirty talking and gorgeous man. Every word from Wesley’s mouth had me blushing and when I tell you I don’t blush easy, I’m serious. Wesley was everything I could ever wish for when it comes to a small-town male lead. He was rugged, woodsy, kind, and so freaking soft for Blake. He was also protective as heck and I adored seeing him come to life.

I can’t stop myself from mentioning the side characters in this story. I NEED more!! Whitney, Vivienne, Wyatt, and literally every single character deserves their story to be told (and I’ve been told by Kelsee that it’s hopefully happening) so I CAN’T WAIT!!

The writing

As a proofreader, I was particularly critical about Kelsee’s writing, but for a debut novel, I have to say – this is probably one of the most well-written romances I’ve ever read. It was so easy to get into the groove of each perspective we were shown, and understanding the story came easy too. The heavy topics were heavy, but they were written in a truly beautiful way. Not to mention the hilarious sense of humour that Kelsee has.

Final thoughts

I can’t wait to get into more Clover-Hills stories. It’s such an adorable setting and gave me all the best vibes while reading! Kelsee, you did an amazing job at creating a truly unforgettable story, give. me. more.
