White Wings of Desire – Avery Conner

Buckle up everyone, because this review is going to practically beg you to read White Wings of Desire! I picked this book up after the lovely Avery reached out to me for a content pull through my author services business – Mystic Books Marketing. I’m so glad I did because wowww. Full of tension, sizzling romance, and one of my favorite romance tropes (he’s hired to kill her but falls in love with her instead), White Wings of Desire was exactly what I needed. 

The story

White Wings of Desire follows Evelyn Black, an ex-hitwoman as she lives her now ordinary life. That all changes when Noah Holman, better known as the infamous White Dove Killer, has set his eyes on Evelyn as his next target. Evelyn is trapped in the web of Noah, and she’ll do whatever it takes to stay alive – including giving in to her deepest and darkest desires. 

Characters

Evelyn was a character that I immediately found myself loving. Her perspective was so relatable and easy to get into. Evelyn had it hard growing up but despite it all, she managed to get out and live a normal life with her friends. Her fear mixed with her uncontrollable attraction to Noah was something that I absolutely loved reading about, especially as she realized her body was practically betraying her mind. It was such an intense connection between the fear that was holding her mind captive and the sizzling tension that was taking hold of her body. I loved seeing the internal battle from her perspective and how falling in love with the person hired to kill her was actually the best outcome for her. 

Oh, My Little Dove, we are far from being done. We will have so much fun together, I promise you. I will make it worth your while; I will make it pleasurable for both of us.

Noah’s perspective was absolutely incredible. I am a huge fan of seeing both perspectives in a romance story and Noah in particular was yearning for Evelyn. I’m such a sucker for a man who’s so in deep for his woman. I loved reading Noah’s side of things where he’s frustrated at himself for being attracted to his target and how it’s never happened to him before despite being the infamous White Dove Killer. I also couldn’t help but swoon at how soft he is for Evelyn, especially when he has zero hesitation when it comes to taking care of her needs. It was absolutely adorable. 

I do want to mention Kyle because I NEED to read more about him. He was hilarious and he made the heavier topics of the book seem a bit lighter. He truly brought a sense of humour into the story and I love that he kind of kept Noah sane throughout the entire book. I can’t wait to find out more about him and read his own story!

Writing style

Avery did an amazing job at capturing my attention and keeping me glued to the screen of my kindle. From the prologue, I was hooked, laughing at Evelyn’s complaint at her new dress getting dirty despite her literally killing a man at the same time. Avery’s style gave the heavy story such a light twist which made it easy to read and so freaking funny. Her sense of humour really shone through the story and I found myself highlighting lines and lines of the book just because they made me feel. 

Final thoughts
