Dark Harmony – Laura Thalassa

Similar to the other books in this series, I’m in awe and a little bit of shock. I can’t believe this series is now over. It seems like only a few days ago I was falling in love with Des and Callie and their complicated love story. The Thief was stealing soldiers still, and Callie was trapped in Karnon’s prison. It feels like we’ve come a long way from seeing Callies’ wings appear to now seeing her rule with Des by her side over the Kingdom of the Night. 

Plot

Callie and Des played right into the trap of the Thief of Souls. Now a fae, not only can the Thief of Souls steal her soul, but Callie is able to glamour the fairies, and when the sleeping soldiers finally wake up, trying to take over the Night Kingdom, Callie is able to stop them easily with a few words from her siren. The Kingdoms of Flora and Fauna fall to the dark side, leaving the Kingdom of Day and Night to form an alliance, and Janus becomes an ally of Callies. 

Many questions still linger as to why Gallagher Nyx, the former Night King is somehow alive, and when it comes to light that the Thief of Souls and Gallagher are co-bound, sharing their magic, it becomes that more real that not only is he alive, but he’s coming for them. 

Meanwhile, every night, Callie is haunted by the Thief of Souls. She’s brought into dreamscapes of his own creation, unable to harm him while he can touch her all he likes. He brings her to different places, but one place stays the same. There’s a glowing pool and red vines all over the walls. Each dream gives her more clarity as to who he is and how to solve the complicated mystery of why he’s doing this and how to fix it. 

Brought face to face with the Thief of Souls countless times, Callie is faced with the task of defeating him to bring justice to her mate, her friends, and her kingdom. 

Characters

As a fae, Callie grows stronger than ever. She’s able to conceal the things that she previously didn’t like about herself, and she really comes into the character who can hold her own ground and be herself without fear of what others think. She constantly stands up and threatens the king despite being afraid of what he can do. When she has some troubles with her mate, she’s able to rule the Kingdom of Night in his absence. She’s pretty much one of the strongest female leads I’ve ever seen and I absolutely love it. She’s a total badass and never deserved the horrible things that happened to her, but she’s stronger because of them. Her love for Des is unwavering despite the many secrets he still keeps, and her loyalty is something I truly admire. I could go on about how much I love this character for ages. 

Desmond Flynn is another character I absolutely adore. He never fails to make me smile, and in this book he practically worships Callie. Bringing her back to her home, letting her take body shots off him, giving her a pool in their quarters, he always makes Callie smile and I absolutely love it. He’s such a sweetheart and while he might strong and all broody around everyone else, around Callie he’s like a little puppy and it’s so adorable! Along with that, Des is able to figure out the mystery long before Callie but he’s trapped where he can’t tell her. Trusting in his mate, he allows her to solve it on her own, knowing she’s strong enough, which I loved. The trust that the two of them have for each other is unending and it’s one of my favorite things about them because they both have so many secrets. 

Temper Darling has always been a favorite character of mine just because of her badass attitude. She’s exactly what Callie needs in a best friend and she kind of boosts every scene she’s in with power. The sorceress constantly makes me laugh with her requests and jokes, but when it comes to being serious she’s able to do that for both Callie and herself. She’s constantly there for Callie including when she’s going through things herself and it’s nice to see such a strong power duo in females. 

“It’s up to you to decide what being you actually means. No one else can do that for you.”

Setting

Similar to other books in the series, the Otherworld is the main setting, however, Des and Callie spend a little time on Earth too. We explore most of the Night Kingdom and a little bit of Janus’ Day Kingdom in this book and I have to say that it all sounds beautiful but parts of it are definitely scary. 

The banished lands are where Gallagher was buried, causing Des and Callie to visit and see just how despicable fae without magic can be. It’s honestly a horrible place that I’d never ever like to see. 

We’re also able to finish one of the smaller Kingdoms that Des mentioned in the first book while explaining the Otherworld to Callie. It’s dark, cold, and uninviting. Definitely not my cup of tea. 

Finally, we spend a bit more time on Earth in Des’ Catalina home and Callie’s Malibu beach house. It’s nice to see them make a home their own, despite running the Night Kingdom and being royals. 

“He’s my moon, my sun, my stars, my sky, and all that space in between them.”

Writing

Once again, Laura Thalassa made me adore her writing. I couldn’t put the book down and finished it in less than a day. I was completely and utterly invested in each of the characters and their stories, and I couldn’t even look away from the page. 

In Conclusion… 

This series was one I’ll never forget. Des and Callie’s love story will stick with me forever, and I honestly can’t believe I never read this series before. I’ll definitely reread this series sometime in the future, and I loved being so invested in this story when it would shock me, make me cry, and make me laugh all in one sentence. Incredible.
