Your Journey to Becoming an Author
- Can you introduce yourself to our readers?
Hi. As you’ve noticed up there, my name is Alex. Ironically, Alexander comes from the Ancient Greek meaning “savior of mankind”. So, I’d like to apologize for the chaos of society.
- What first drew you to writing as a craft?
Solitude and boredom. Also, the fact that I had stories to tell, but no one to share them with, alas.
- How did your author journey begin?
‘Twas a Monday morning, in the autumn. I was bored stiff, while in school. I grabbed a pen and a piece of paper and wrote a play. I think I wrote a page or two. That was almost 20 years ago. Time flies!
- Are there any authors or books that inspired you or significantly influenced the way you write?
Ann Cleeves, Stieg Larsson, John Le Carre were/are authors who’ve inspired me, as a writer. I read Mr. Larsson’s works in English, so it was mainly the translator who inspired my writing, there.
- What was the most surprising part of your publishing experience?
That people bought my books. I mean, when I published my first one, the entire promotion campaign was a tweet on the publishing day. (For you young’uns, a tweet is what we’d write on Twitter. You’d know it as X. I wonder why it’s not called X-tasy. Or X-parrot, for reposts.)
- Where do you find is the best place for you to brainstorm your writing? Do you have a specific area in your house or a favorite cafe where you always end up writing the best?
In my living room. Isn’t it ironic that I use my living room to “kill my darlings”? Don’t you think?
Let’s Talk Recent Releases
- Tell me about your most recent release. What drew you into the story?
My most recent release is Manky Business, that was published 3 years ago. What drew me into it was that I was inspired by a trip I made to Scotland in the BC times (before the COVID). Oddly enough, I was there to work on another story. So, I wrote “Manky Business” on my way back.
- Who is your favorite character in this story, why?
The main character is my favourite one. Because I think he’s the character I’ve created with whom I have the highest level of sibling-ness. Or closeness. That sounds better. Also, is closeness a relative of Loch Ness?
What’s Next for You?
- Do you have any upcoming books or novellas in the works?
Yep. Probably two books this year. I need to work on a few things. Like rewrites and covers. The dates are still TBD, as of yet.
- Where did you gain the inspiration for these next projects?
One came from some news report I’ve heard about a political scandal (I love those!) and the other was just an idea I had.
More About You
- If you could describe your writing in three words, what would they be?
They would be the answer to that question. And three words to describe my writing are: imagery, chaos and alcohol.
- Where can readers find more information about you? Leave your links below!
They can find me on Threads (https://www.threads.net/@alex_micati) and on Instagram. I’m also on the Bluesky (https://bsky.app/profile/alexmicati.bsky.social) and on Twitter (alex_micati)
Final Remarks
I want to give a huge thank you to Alex for joining me for this interview. It’s always so much fun getting to know new authors and spreading the word about their works of art!
