This was so amazing! I loved following Clark as he shows us a little insight into his life and where he comes from. It was so cool seeing his point of view of his teammates and their supposedly dead leader, Director Hunter.
Plot
After the events of Chimera’s Fire, where Project Chimera’s leader, Director Hunter is murdered, the team continues their search for Orthrus – an organization that is stopping at nothing to bring down Director Hunter and his good legacy.
The beginning of the book follows the team as they hunt for another supernatural creature that they believe can lead them to Orthrus and their headquarters.
Finding out more and more about the organization that’s trying to take them down, can Project Chimera get out of this sticky situation before it gets worse?
Characters
Let’s start with Clark because this book is in his point of view. For the past two books, I’ve been super indecisive when it comes to whether I like Clark or not, but from this book I totally love him. We’re able to see a little bit about his life before joining Project Chimera, and it’s clear that he’s taking life one day at a time. He’s pretty much a “go with the flow” kind of guy who enjoys his parties and wants to live his life to the highest possible degree and I can’t say I’m mad about that. Him and his teammates deserve to party. He’s just such a genuinely nice guy and it’s clear that he cares so much for his teammates who are now his family.
Same as before, I love River and his powers. Shapeshifting is just so cool. I feel like he’s a really strong character and I want more from him too.
Verity was amazing as usual. I’ve loved her in the past two books and this one is no different. She’s witty and kind and definitely gets caught up in her emotions at times, but I like that about her.
Writing
I enjoy the writing style in the book. I feel like it’s super straightforward and easy to get into and I like how I get caught up in the story by the first line.
Setting
Same as the last book, we see Project Chimera’s new office at Nexus. It’s pretty much the same and it’s a simple office space.
We’re also able to see a festival taking place in Italy which was a cool setting to see Clark in since it’s definitely his kind of place.
I think my favorite setting was actually the prison though. I could just imagine tons of supernatural creatures lined up in jail cells.
In Conclusion…
Great book. I loved the insight into Clark and his character and I feel like I really got to know him. I’m also super intrigued with how the book ended and I can’t wait to find out what’s going to happen in the next one! It was a short and easy read that I absolutely loved.
