ARC Review: The Hare in His Snare – Juniper Hartmann

I want to start this review by giving a huge thank you to Junie. Joining your street team has been such a fun experience and I’ve loved every second of it. The little community you’ve made on our discord server has made me feel so welcomed and appreciated.

The Hare in His Snare is a prequel to Hartmann’s Run, Rabbit, Run and will have you begging for more!

The story

I knew I loved Bunny and Demetrius but oh my god, i love them even more. The Hare in His Snare follows Bunny as she meets Demetrius and processes the trauma she’s experienced from her parents. The two embark on a journey where they undergo intense trauma healing through sexual encounters and scenes, allowing the processing of their mental states.

As a psych major, i found myself so excited to see so much mental health rep in a story like this. It was clear from Run, Rabbit, Run that Bunny has undergone a lot of traumatic experiences in her life, however, i never expected to see them processed in this way. It just shows that everyone heals differently and i love how representative Bunny and Demetrius both were in the story.

We see tons of mental health rep and we also see tons of sexual exploration and i thoroughly enjoyed seeing Bunny learn new ways of enjoying her sexual experiences.

The characters

I knew Bunny Townsend was going to be that girl but she was truly that girl. She was confident and sure of herself despite her many difficult experiences and I found myself loving the aspects of her that gave others a hard time as a way of deflection. Bunny has gone through many struggles in her lifetime and finding Demetrius was one of the best decisions she could’ve made.

Bunny and Demetrius’s relationship was one that took some navigating. I found myself unsure of where they were actually going during the beginning of their relationship yet I later was falling freely into their dynamic. The two started out as a sexual escape from both of their life struggles yet it turned into a deeper bond over understanding each other. I loved their silent gestures and easy communication. The trust they have in each other was so strong and it created a relationship that I found myself feeling deep in my bones.

Demetrius is a character that I really want to know more about. I feel like we got bits and pieces in this book as well as Run, Rabbit, Run but I didn’t see the full picture. I want to know about his childhood and how his OCD has affected him in his life. How his relationship is with his parents and how he came to be best friends with Michael. I want to know about his “business associates” and where they came from and how he managed to get into all of this. I need more of him! His patience and his kindness and his unwavering love for Bunny, ugh, I’m just obsessed with him.

The writing style

When you read Junie’s writing you’ll realize how easy to get into the stories are. I don’t know if it’s the writing or the actual story but it just flows so nicely and you get so lost in it. I found myself reading chapter after chapter when I only had time for one, and countless times I lost track of the time reading this story and adoring Bunny and Demetrius.

Final thoughts

These characters, this world, I want more! I adore them and their struggles and everything that makes them, them. I want more of Bunny and Demetrius, I want to know the ins and outs of both of them. I adore this story and this world, I can’t wait to see what Hartmann puts out next!
