Gold Lotus – S.H. Steele

Okay, I’m in complete shock from this book. Everything happened so fast and I’ve barely processed it and I love that.

Plot

When a mysterious package arrives at the Den, Mai is hesitant to open it, only to discover that it’s from her father, someone who’s been absent for her entire life.

With her father back in her life, he abruptly runs through the Den’s doors claiming that hunters are coming and they have attacked his family.

Max, Mai, and Yuri must do what they can do to protect the Den and everything they hold dear before it’s all ripped from their grasps by hunters.

Characters

Mai has been constant throughout this entire book. She’s never let me down and she didn’t start here either. She’s an amazing character that’s so easy to follow. I find myself really understanding her and everything that she thinks as she goes through each story and event in her life.

Yuri is a character that I wasn’t sure about before but I totally love now. Her relationship with Mai has developed greatly over the past few books and she’s definitely become a character that I can get behind and see myself following. I also love how strong she is as a woman and the fact that she isn’t afraid to hold her own ground and do what she believes is right.

Max was perfect as always, this time with the added protection of love for Mai. Their relationship is so adorable and I can’t get enough of it.

Mai’s father was interesting. I feel like I didn’t get enough information about him but he seems like a genuinely good guy.

Setting

This book takes place in the Den once again and it’s a setting that’s perfect to have the stories centered around. The Den is such a welcoming place for all supernaturals and I can’t help but feel awe at what Yuri has created. It’s a safe space that people go and can feel as if they belong.

Writing

Steele’s writing had me totally hooked by the first line. I couldn’t get enough of this story and was completely shocked and on the edge of my seat with each revelation.

In Conclusion…

I can’t wait to see what happens in the next book and how the Den is saved from the hunters. This cliffhanger was insane and I need more!
