Queen of the Dome – Amizah R

Guys. What?! How have I never read this book before???

I’m finally on my reading week for university, which means procrastinating my actual readings. I spent the day searching for a book to get me out of a slump that could beat all other slumps. And when I say that, I mean it. It’s been MONTHS since I’ve picked up a good book and really gotten into it.

I settled on Queen of the Dome by Amizah R. I’ve seen this series all over TikTok, and I had wanted to pick it up for a while, but never gotten around to it. I figured this week would be the perfect time, especially with the release of the third book in the series a little while ago. I’d had this book downloaded on Kindle Unlimited for ages, and I’m so glad I came across it in my Kindle library today.

The story

I didn’t expect the storyline to hook me into it so freaking fast. The first chapter of the book introduces the world and characters perfectly. I got a decent idea of what was going on, where we were, the history of the characters, and how I felt about the majority of the characters too. I immediately fell in love with Cade, our main male lead, and Deianira, the female lead.

The storyline of this book was intense in the best way possible. It was super fast-paced and held my interest the entire time I was reading it. We started off getting to know Cade and our world a little bit before being launched into the family drama of Cade’s life. We’re introduced to his best friend, Lia, who is a seer (how cool, right?!), and his brother Cassian. We’re also introduced to his father (who we immediately despise), and the storyline gets incredibly intense, incredibly fast.

Being brought into Deianira’s life, we’re shown the “richer” side of Terra, their world. It’s awesome to see the kinds of technology involved in their world and how the outside of the Dome is basically left to their own devices. Deianira is queen of the dome and it’s so cool to see that she rules her people when there’s still so much for her to figure out after over a hundred years of living.

Cade and Deianira are pushed into each other’s lives. Little by little they learn to love each other’s presence and they find out the little secrets that each of them has. They become each other’s confidants, and most trusted allies while also learning the ins and outs of Dome’s palace and its people.

The characters

Like I said earlier, I fell for Cade at his first introduction. His silent but deadly behaviour had me curious about him. Usually, the male lead is super cocky and kind of full of themselves, but I love this difference. Cade was refreshing and real. His thoughts and feelings were true to himself and I love that he always did what was best to protect his loved ones. His instincts told him to fight for those he loves and that’s exactly what he did.

Deianira was a character that I didn’t expect to love so freaking much. Her cold exterior is something that a female lead often lacks. I love that she didn’t wear her heart on her sleeve and concealed her vulnerability from those outside of her inner circle. I found myself admiring her strength throughout the book and everything that she had gone through to get to that point.

Deianira’s story was probably the most shocking part of the entire book. Her cold exterior had me convinced that she would be capable of murdering her family for the throne, but the twist threw me completely off base in my assumptions of her. It caused me to look back on her actions and interactions with other characters and really assess who she was. Was she a good or evil queen?

Salem was one of those characters that I couldn’t help but love. The queen’s right hand, Salem was basically the most trusted for Deianira and I love that they had some sort of friendship as well. It was clear that the two cared for each other deeply, and I’m excited to see more of Salem in the next books where I’m pretty sure she’s one of the main characters with Cassian?

Speaking of Cassian, what a refreshing character. Like his brother, I liked him immediately. Regardless of his actions at the beginning of the book, he quickly made up for them by being an absolute SWEETHEART. He’s such a softie and I just want to give him a big hug, he’s so cute!

Lia was probably one of my favorite characters just because she had me laughing all the damn time. The beginning of the book showed Lia joking around and being a complete nutcase and I love that for her. I love a good headstrong girlie and it’s clear that she can look after herself. Also – how cool is it that she’s a seer?! I mean what an amazing gift!

The writing style

I was curious as to how the writing style would go throughout the book as I’d seen small clips and snippets of the book already. I expected a fairly easy-to-read book, and that’s exactly what I got. The language was super straightforward, and super easy to understand and read. It kind of read like a Wattpad book at times – nothing wrong with that! – which kind of made it even easier? It felt like I was just zipping through the book despite the 300+ pages that it had!

My thoughts

Like I mentioned earlier, I’d seen this book series all over TikTok, and the hype is REAL. It’s so worth the read and I couldn’t put it down at all today. I started the book a few hours ago and it’s now two in the morning – for context. I fell completely in love with the characters, the story, the worldbuilding, and I can’t wait for more of them all.

I’m about to start the second book in the series, no sleep for the bookworms out there!
