Book Reviews

The Sisters of Straygarden Place – Hayley Chewins

First of all, I want to thank Goodreads for allowing me the opportunity to enter a giveaway for this book! This book had me hooked from the description on the back cover, and I was immediately brought into a fantasy world full of little girls and puppy dogs that help you dream. I think it’s safe to say I thoroughly enjoyed this book!

As Old As Time – Liz Braswell

Since I absolutely love fairytale retellings, this was a pretty exciting read for me. Liz Braswell told the story of Beauty and the Beast in a twisted, dark, and different way than the original fairytale that I really enjoyed. Definitely an interesting twist on an otherwise beautiful fairytale. Beauty and the Beast but darker, more haunting, and with cobwebs surrounding the castle! What if Belle’s mother was the enchantress that cursed the Beast?

The Queens Assassin (Excerpt) – Melissa De La Cruz

I was actually really excited about this sampler. After reading the description it sounded like my kind of story, however, I was kind of disappointed. It just wasn’t what I wanted from it. Now, the book might get better, I did only have the prologue and first three chapters, but from what I read, I wasn’t that impressed.

Lore – Alexandra Bracken

Now, where do I even begin? This book was…unbelievable, to say the least. It’s probably my new favorite book. Lore is a unique story that includes Greek mythology, and, as someone who’s never been into Greek mythology, this really surprised me. Luckily for me, I had already read the first six chapters of this book through Netgalley, as an excerpt. This little sneak peak on the book made me so ready to dive right in, and let me tell you, I was hooked.

Rise of Knight and Sword – Miriam Wade

Once again, I want to thank Netgalley for allowing me to read this book in exchange for an honest review. Rise of Knight and Sword was definitely an interesting take on the Arthurian legends surrounding The Knights of the Round Table. To be completely honest, this book wasn’t really my cup of tea, but the storyline was intriguing and the characters were also pretty good. It didn’t have my full attention, in fact, I kind of just wanted to finish it to move onto something better, but I suppose it was nice to get back into a (sort-of) Arthurian type story.

The Brighter The Stars – Bryan Prosek

Bryan Prosek has such a unique and different writing style to what I’m used to, and it was really nice to read his book The Brighter The Stars. This is one of the first sci-fi novels I’ve read in quite a long time, so I have to admit, it did take me a while to get into, however, the storyline was super addicting and I became really into it which made me want to read 24/7.

Crowned A Traitor – Kate Callaghan

I really enjoyed reading this. The writing style was unique, and so was the story. The characters were detailed and so different than what I’ve recently been reading and the entire story was honestly so refreshing. This was a super cool plotline. Our main character is none other than the heir of Hell! Klara is Lucifer’s daughter and she has been called upon to take her place in the world of royalty as the High Queen of Malum. Unfortunately, Klara doesn’t want to rule, which puts her in a tough situation with all of her guardians.

Lore (Excerpt) – Alexandra Bracken

This book is kind of centered around Greek mythology. Every seven years, the Agon begins and nine Greek Gods are forced to walk the earth as mortals. These Gods are hunted during the Agon by descendants of the ancient bloodlines in order for the hunters to gain immortality and power.

A Vow so Bold and Deadly (Excerpt) – Brigid Kemmerer

First of all, I want to thank Netgalley for giving me the chance to read this short preview of A Vow so Bold and Deadly by Brigid Kemmerer. From the first words of A Curse so Dark and Lonely – “There is blood under my fingernails. I wonder how many people I’ve killed this time.”- I have been completely obsessed with this series. I finished both of the previous books in a day, and I fell in love with the characters and storyline, which is why I’m so grateful to have a little sneak-peak of the newest book which has an expected publication on January 12th, 2021.
